Perfect Places Supports Youth Skiing with Sponsorship of Squaw Valley Mighty Mites

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) December 13, 2011

Perfect Places continued its support of the Squaw Valley Ski Team Mighty Mites Program, marking the eighth consecutive year that it's provided sponsorship, Rick Haggart, President of Perfect Places said.

"Skiing is an incredible family-oriented vacation activity and the Squaw Valley Mighty Mites Program helps create the next generation of passionate life-long skiers,? Haggart said. ?Mighty Mites participants develop great skills, confidence and a love of skiing at a very young age.

?The Program also provides kids their first taste of ski racing and graduates have gone on to win Olympic Medals.? Haggart said. ?Watching the Mighty Mite teams come down one of Squaw Valley?s legendary steep runs or blaze through the gates on a race day can take your breath away.?

?The Mighty Mites Program has about 500 participants, and the donations from Perfect Places go a long way in encouraging young skiers to stay engaged with the sport.? said DeeDee Driller, Director of the Program. "We teach kids to be solid racers, because the skills they learn in racing translate well into any type of skiing they do when they're older. Of course, the kids learn safety as a first priority."

"We make it as much of a family event as possible by giving older kids activities as they mature. This helps keep families together on the weekends, and keeps everyone coming up. It also helps keep the kids interested in skiing as they get older," Driller said.

Mighty Mites holds races and jump competitions throughout the season. Participants must be between 5 - 8 years old and be advanced beginner skiers. Children 4 and under can take part in the Shooting Stars program, Driller said. After Mighty Mites, kids move on to developmental skiing through age 18.

The Mighty Mites most famous alumnus is Olympic Gold Medalist Julia Mancuso, Driller said. Mancuso went throughout the Squaw Valley race program, beginning with Mighty Mites.

"On race days, we give awards for the top 10 in an event," Driller said. ?The donations from Perfect Places help all the kids feel like they got an award." Mighty Mite team members get items such as cowbells, keepsake race bibs, water bottles and more. Driller said Mighty Mites encourages participants to be lifelong skiers, and that a feeling of accomplishment and success is important to keep kids involved.
