College Basketball National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette Kicks off Professional Career with Poster

Provo, Utah (PRWEB) May 09, 2011

All-American guard Jimmer Fredette of Brigham Young University launched his future as a professional athlete with release of a poster celebrating his many national honors including the Naismith and John Wooden awards as the nation?s best college basketball player.

?It?s a good feeling to know you did what you had to do in college and now you are in a position where people really want to buy posters and jerseys,? said Fredette.

?It just shows that all the hard work you put into this profession is starting to pay off and it?s a good feeling.?

The poster, 24 by 36 inches, became available with launch of the Internet site Jimmerposter.com the night the 6-2 guard from Glens Falls, N.Y., won the prestigious Wooden Award in Los Angeles.

In a blitzkrieg production that began days after Fredette led 32-5 BYU to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament, the nation?s leading scorer partnered with Doug Martin and Alan Knight for a studio photo shoot in Orem, Utah before the star left for the NCAA Final Four in Houston where he received the AP and U.S. Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year honors.

The Jimmer poster is patterned after a similar Martin/Knight 1990 poster of Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer with use of a tuxedo symbolizing the national awards and honors received by Fredette.

?This poster is a way for Jimmer, his parents Al and Kay Fredette, and his fans from across the country to connect in celebration of the trophies and honors Jimmer has received the past month. It provides a way of celebrating with Jimmer and saying congratulations and thanks,? said Martin.

There will also be an upgraded, smaller, limited-edition print available on high quality art paper that will be individually signed by Jimmer, framed, matted and numbered for collectors. The poster and the limited edition piece can be seen at http://www.jimmerposter.com. Fans can also follow on Twitter and Facebook by registering at the website.

Now that Fredette?s NCAA eligibility is over, he is free to market himself and receive the profits. Jimmer has recently signed with international sports and marketing firm Octagon to represent him. He is currently projected to be selected in the first half of the first round of the upcoming NBA Draft on June 23.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports Kicks Off Winter Season at Wintergreen Resort

Wintergreen, VA (PRWEB) December 08, 2011

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports (WAS), which offers educational programs that encourage individuals with disabilities to learn to ski and snowboard, will kick off the winter season at Wintergreen Resort on Monday (Dec. 19) with the opening of its Adaptive Snow Sports School.

The school will operate seven days a week, offering half-day and full-day lessons in skiing and snowboarding for children, teenagers and adults with any type of disability.

WAS, a non-profit organization founded in 1996, provides standard and adaptive equipment, as well as trained volunteer instructors, both adult and teenaged. Skiing offers disabled individuals profound therapeutic benefits, including increased physical vitality and stamina, as well as important improvements in overall mental and emotional health.

Here is a look at other upcoming WAS events for the remainder of this year and into 2012:

Tuesday, Dec. 27; Monday, Jan. 16; and Saturday, Feb. 11 | Executive Director?s Open House: From 10 to 11 a.m. on each of the three days, members of the community are invited to visit the WAS snow sports school building to take a closer look at what the organization offers and how it operates.

Friday, Jan. 20-Sunday, Jan. 22 | The 8th Annual Wounded Warrior Weekend at Wintergreen Resort. Approximately 75 wounded warriors, spouses, children, and caregivers will enjoy a complementary weekend of snow sports instruction and fun. In 2004, WAS became one of the first adaptive snow sports programs to offer a wounded warrior sport project.

March 3 | Mardi Gras Celebration on Snow. Participants are invited to come in costume, join the on-snow parade, and enjoy a fun synchronized skiing competition.

In a recent key organizational development, WAS ? which relies on individual donations, grants and business sponsorships for nearly all of its funding ? announced that a fundraising effort earlier this year brought in more than $ 30,000, with the Donovan Foundation contributing $ 10,000 as part of a matching donation incentive.
