College Basketball National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette Kicks off Professional Career with Poster

Provo, Utah (PRWEB) May 09, 2011

All-American guard Jimmer Fredette of Brigham Young University launched his future as a professional athlete with release of a poster celebrating his many national honors including the Naismith and John Wooden awards as the nation?s best college basketball player.

?It?s a good feeling to know you did what you had to do in college and now you are in a position where people really want to buy posters and jerseys,? said Fredette.

?It just shows that all the hard work you put into this profession is starting to pay off and it?s a good feeling.?

The poster, 24 by 36 inches, became available with launch of the Internet site Jimmerposter.com the night the 6-2 guard from Glens Falls, N.Y., won the prestigious Wooden Award in Los Angeles.

In a blitzkrieg production that began days after Fredette led 32-5 BYU to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament, the nation?s leading scorer partnered with Doug Martin and Alan Knight for a studio photo shoot in Orem, Utah before the star left for the NCAA Final Four in Houston where he received the AP and U.S. Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year honors.

The Jimmer poster is patterned after a similar Martin/Knight 1990 poster of Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer with use of a tuxedo symbolizing the national awards and honors received by Fredette.

?This poster is a way for Jimmer, his parents Al and Kay Fredette, and his fans from across the country to connect in celebration of the trophies and honors Jimmer has received the past month. It provides a way of celebrating with Jimmer and saying congratulations and thanks,? said Martin.

There will also be an upgraded, smaller, limited-edition print available on high quality art paper that will be individually signed by Jimmer, framed, matted and numbered for collectors. The poster and the limited edition piece can be seen at http://www.jimmerposter.com. Fans can also follow on Twitter and Facebook by registering at the website.

Now that Fredette?s NCAA eligibility is over, he is free to market himself and receive the profits. Jimmer has recently signed with international sports and marketing firm Octagon to represent him. He is currently projected to be selected in the first half of the first round of the upcoming NBA Draft on June 23.

The cocktail reception will begin at 6:30 pm, with dinner at 7:30 pm.

"One Person, One Company, One College Make A Difference" is one of the largest and most important events on the fashion industry's annual calendar. The gala benefits FIT's Educational Development Fund, which assists the college with scholarships, technology, and student services, among other priorities.

Dinner chair is Ron Frasch, president and chief merchandising officer, Saks Fifth Avenue. Journal chair is Terron Schaefer, group senior vice president, Creative and Marketing, Saks Fifth Avenue.

"Steve Sadove has long been a great advocate of education and a valued friend of FIT," said Dr. Joyce F. Brown, president of FIT. "It is an honor to be recognized by FIT, whose resources and education are best in class for the talented individuals pursuing careers in fashion and retail," said Sadove. "In the current environment, it is paramount that we continue to show support for those who stand to inherit our industry by affording them opportunity and the ability to cultivate their ideas and creativity."

As a special feature of this year's gala, twenty FIT students majoring in Accessories Design have been invited to demonstrate their creativity and talent to interpret black pumps, donated by Saks, as New York landmarks, such as the Empire State Building or the Brooklyn Bridge, using CRYSTALLIZEDTM - Swarovski Elements. The shoes will be on display throughout the evening, during which guests will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite creation. The winner of the challenge will receive a $ 2,500 stipend, and all of the designs will be featured in 10022-SHOE, Saks Fifth Avenue's designer shoe salon.

Oceanside College of Beauty Student Competed in National Competition

Oceanside, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2011

Beatriz Sandoval, a cosmetology student at Oceanside College of Beauty, recently participated in a national hairstyling competition sponsored by Clairol Professional. Sandoval was one of two student finalist selected from entries across the country who travelled to Atlanta, Georgia to compete live on stage. She won second place overall.

To enter the contest, Sandoval had to use hair colors from the Clairol Beautiful collection and create a look on a live model. She used several colors, mixing browns and reds to achieve the desired look. After submitting a photo and detailed explanation of how she achieved the look, her entries were reviewed by a panel of judges.

?We?re so proud of Beatriz?s hard work,? said Ray Stainback, owner of Oceanside College of Beauty. ?It?s wonderful to see one of our students challenging herself and accomplishing so much, so early in her career.?

As a finalist, her prize was a 3 day/2 night trip to Atlanta, Georgia for herself and guest, where she attended the Bronner Show and competed against the other finalists. In Atlanta, Sandoval met her model for the first time, developed a plan for a new hair style using Clairol Beautiful colors, and created the look live on stage. She also participated in a question and answer session with the audience and judges.

Sandoval won second place, competing against another student stylist. Two licensed stylists also competed in Atlanta.

?It was a great opportunity, and very humbling to be a part of this,? said Sandoval. ?Everyone was very encouraging, and the other stylists all gave me great feedback.?
