Students roamed the halls of the Farmers Insurance Group? complex Wednesday, November 16, as part of a ?on-the-job? program that brings together East Kentwood High School students and Farmers agents and employees. The program, JA Job Shadow, is provided by Junior Achievement (JA) of the Michigan Great Lakes and is one of the many JA programs that Farmers is proud to support.
?Farmers Insurance Group has been a long standing supporter of JA in West Michigan and is the 2011-2012 Junior Achievement West Michigan Financial Literacy sponsor,? says Steve Boshoven, president of Farmers specialty. ?Farmers is involved in supporting numerous JA educational programs including the JA Job Shadow event.?
The JA Job Shadow program is designed to teach the students about jobs and careers in a global economy.
The one day program consisted of:
????Introduction into the Farmers claims department and agency development.
????Tours of the new facility and overview of marketing practices.
????University of Farmers; tours, claims training and ServicePoint? overview.
????Snacks, lunch and take home pieces provided to students.
?The JA Job Shadow program is a great opportunity for students to get a look at the professional world within a growing company in West Michigan,? says Bill Walrath, Farmers Michigan state executive director. ?Farmers culture is based on education and growth, so JA programs are a perfect outlet for us to contribute to the community and local schools.?
Farmers is also involved in many other JA events including, sponsoring Financial Literacy, JA in a Day, JA Titan Business Challenge and the JA West Michigan Business Hall of Fame. Farmers/Foremost has been a supporter of JA for nearly 60 years and is a recipient of the JA Spirit of Achievement award and is a JA Giving, Fundraising and Volunteer Champion.
